Yonnet Opens Music in the Mansion Series; 2nd Show Added

Strathmore Music in the Mansion Presents
FRÉDÉRIC YONNET
Urban jazz harmonicist kicks off 2012-13 Mansion concerts

NORTH BETHESDA, MD – French-born, urban jazz harmonicist, Frédéric Yonnet, most noted for his energetic harmonica duals with music legend Stevie Wonder and as a soloist with music icon Prince, opens the 2012-2013 season of Strathmore’s Music in the Mansion series with his genre-bending sound on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.

Using the harmonica as a lead instrument, Yonnet takes a modern approach to an instrument that many have owned but few have mastered by combining jazz and R&B influences with memorable melodies and head-bopping grooves. The D.C.-based former Strathmore Artist in Residence is intent on expanding the way the music industry regards the pocketsize reed instrument, and he’s enlisted some heavy-hitters to help make his point. He has performed and recorded with such popular artists as The Jonas Brothers, India.Arie, Erykah Badu and Anthony Hamilton. Yonnet appeared with Prince on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Rolling Stone magazine referred to him as “Prince’s killer harmonica player.”
At the Mansion, Yonnet will perform music from his current project, REED MY LIPS, an innovative endeavor that gives fans a peek into the creative process by sharing raw and rough versions of the music, artwork and video concepts still in development. As Yonnet records, collaborates with guests and produces the album, he uploads conceptual materials so fans that have purchased the REED MY LIPS download card can access and comment on the music—thus providing greater insight into his creative process. Once complete, REED MY LIPS: THE FINAL MIX will be accessible via the same download card and CD.
