Yonnet Tours w/ Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life

Wonder Announces Tour w/ Pop Up Shows in DC, Philly and NYC

What a way to start the day! Stevie Wonder performed a “pop-up” concert in Washington, DC to announce the final U.S. dates of his Songs in the Key of Life (SITKOL) Performance Tour.  The legendary singer-songwriter dropped by the Armory Mall in front of RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. to perform hits from the iconic album of the same name. He performed several songs including “Love’s In Need Of Love Today,”  answered questions from the media and talked about the need for gun control.  The show, produced by Live Nation and The D.C. Office of Motion Picture and Television Development and advertised just hours before the show, featured five members of the 22-piece band that holds down the tour.

Harmonicist Frederic Yonnet, a special guest on the first part of the tour, was in the audience to enjoy the show when Wonder invited him to the stage.  “You got your harmonica?” Wonder inquired of Yonnet.  A few minutes later, Yonnet was ripping through solos on the crowd-favorite tune, “As.

During the SITKOL tour, Yonnet performs with Wonder on “Have A Talk with God” and “Mama’s Call,” which both feature multiple harmonica parts on the original recording. At the pop-up show, Wonder announced that Yonnet would be returning to the tour this Fall.

After the 45 minute set, Wonder was gone as quickly as he had arrived, heading off to Dilworth Park in Philadelphia and Central Park in NYC to do the same.

If you didn’t catch the tour earlier this year then don’t pass go until you get your ticket.
