Tune In: BET Salutes Q

Tune-in to BET this December when Frederic Yonnet joins a cast of other noted musicians to honor the musical career and legacy of Grammy-award winning producer Quincy Jones.  This Special entitled,Q85: A Musical Celebration for Quincy Jones, celebrates Jone’s 85th birthday and his cultural influence on the music industry. This star-studded event, hosted by Rashida Jones, included remarks and performances from Stevie Wonder, Dave Chappelle, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Charlie Wilson and others.

Frederic Yonnet performed on three of Jone’s well known compositions including “Miss Celie’s Blues” from The Color Purple, “The Streetbeater,” the theme from the popular 70’s television show Sanford and Son, and “Killer Joe” from his 1969 album, Walking in Space.

Killer Joe was performed during the Jook Joint segment of the show — a nod to Q’s 1995 album of the same name, and was introduced by Dave Chappelle.  It featured an All-Star line-up lead by Herbie Hancock on keys, Terrance Blanchard on trumpet, Harvey Mason on drums, Hubert Laws on the flute, Yonnet on harmonica, Jacob Collier on keys, Paul Jackson on guitar, and John Clayton on bass.

Tune-in:  BET’s Q85: A Musical Celebration for Quincy Jones will air on BET in December. Exact date TBD.
