The festival is dedicated to bassist,
jazz legend and Silver Spring native
Keter Betts, who died earlier this
month. The festivities kick off
with a showcase of local youth
talent in a New Orleans- style
parade through the city and a competition
between the bands. The competition
will be judged by Marsalis; Susan
Jenkins, president of Jazz Alliance
International; Ira Sabin, JazzTimes’ own
founder and Chairman Emeritus;
radio host Rusty Hassan; and radio
personality Jacqui Allen. Check
local listings or fredyonnet.com
